Mission statement

Top 10 is a coalition comprised of over 110 partners from multiple sectors and including health care providers, businesses, area non-profits, and academia, that works to decrease the burden of chronic disease by developing a culture of health in Central Indiana. The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis serves as the backbone organization for the Top 10 Coalition.

Action

Complete a policy scan in each of the four focus areas – built environment, nutrition, physical activity, tobacco prevention and cessation – to determine a policy agenda, including support of policies that align with Top 10 partners’ advocacy efforts

The policy task force has worked with partners over the course of the year to develop Top 10’s priorities for a policy agenda, as well as a process for determining policy agendas in future years. Both of these will be finalized by the end of 2016.

Indy Food Council, Marion County Public Health Department, the YMCA, and Top 10 worked together in the first 2 quarters of 2016 to begin conducting NEMS Corner Store assessments in 3 Indianapolis neighborhoods. We continue to meet monthly with Indy Food Council staff to align our initiatives and work together on areas that overlap. We are currently completing NEMS assessments in one additional Indianapolis neighborhood this fall.
